Our New Upgraded Cariaggi Cashmere

OUR CASHMERE: STEP BY STEP

At Cariaggi, cutting-edge technology is combined with generations of Italian craftsmanship and know-how. Here, we follow our new “heather hazelnut” sweater from start to finish.

1. CASHMERE IN THE RAW
Bales of raw cashmere fibers, called “flock,” are ready for processing. Cariaggi selects only the finest fibers, which translates to an incredibly soft sweater.

2. MIX MASTERS
After the raw cashmere is dyed, it then passes through various machines to ensure the fibers are perfectly blended to create our exclusive colors. It’s then collected onto spools.

3. YOU SPIN ME ROUND
The spools are now placed onto a spinning frame, which stretches and twists the yarn simultaneously to create resistance, elasticity and strength. The spun yarn is then collected onto cone-shaped spindles.

4. HERE COMES THE WINDUP
The spindles are placed in a spooler and wound, all while sophisticated electronic sensors inspect the fibers for any imperfections. At the end of this step, the yarn comes out in a single “ply” (a standard yarn consists of multiple plies of cashmere).

5. THE PAYOFF
Finally, we knit the three-ply yarns (which give our sweaters a noticeable handfeel) into our crewneck and V-neck styles, available in 12 colors this fall—including 10 that were custom-made just for us.
